My music school was a New Orleans barroom, and I was lucky enough to learn by watching the old piano professors up close. Standing on the shoulders of giants is not a bad place to be. The Groove gets passed on, the tradition breathes and those long-gone ivory ticklers assert their immortality through the keys...

Lately, I've been holding down a regular Tuesday night solo gig with Ella, an elegant, loud and clunky old Steinway upright piano that just turned 100 years old. Part of a pianist's job is doing requests; a recurring one has been to make a recording of the gig, so a few months back we put up a couple of mics and here you have it, by popular demand: Live at Chickie Wah Wah.
